Learning to Dive the BSAC Way
The question that is often asked about learning to dive is "why is the training so long and complicated compared to what I could do on holiday?"
training In the pool
The simple answer is that we believe the BSAC method of training produces divers who are not only safe divers but can respond to the challenging requirements of British diving. It is fair to say that the waters around the UK offer some of the most rewarding and adventurous diving to be found anywhere. Our aim is to equip divers with the competence to cope in a variety of environments. Of course, once you have qualified to dive in British waters, then most holiday diving should give you no trouble at all.

Learning to rescue
Training starts with a "Come & Try" session - this is aimed at getting you in the pool with the equipment and experience of breathing under water. Then, hopefully, if you’re bitten by the bug, like we were, you'll have signed up for one of our BSAC Ocean Diver courses. On passing the theory and practical elements of the course you will have gained an internationally recognised qualification that enables you to dive with someone of the same or higher qualification anywhere in the world. If you wish you can progress to Sports Diver training which consists of further theory lessons and open water training exercises and assessments. This should be the aim of all trainee divers if you wish to take full advantage of the dive sites and facilities we have to offer at WATSAC'.
For those who are interested, the club has an active training programme so you can gain the qualifications of Dive Leader and Advanced Diver. These not only offer the possibility of participating in more adventurous dives but also allow the diver to lead and organise club dives. Additionally BSAC, through its national coaching scheme, operates instructor training courses. These highly rewarding, courses enable the qualified instructor to carry out diver training in the club environment.
Training Courses Planned for 2009
The dates for the Ocean Diver course are 31st October and 1st November 2009 for pool and classroom work with the intention being to get into the sea as soon as is practical (weather permitting) after that. All being well, you should be qualified in time for the better weather when the fun really starts!

Places are filled quickly, especially now that we have reduced the headline price! So please contact the training officer to reserve your place as soon as possible.

Don't forget that with our new monthly try dive sessions, you can come along and have a go even sooner, before you think about signing up for the course.
